Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Child support arrears

I was divorced in Pennsylvania in 1993. My ex husband was ordered to pay child support for our 3 children. He has done an okay job with the exception of medical bills. He is ordered to pay 40% of unreimbursed medical. My children and I have since moved to Georgia. My ex still refuses to pay medical bills and the charges are mounting in back child support somewhere in the range of $4000. I have a daughter with Juvenile Diabetes and Rheumatoid arthritis. Her medical bills and prescriptions are very high including some hospitalizations. My ex husband does pay on the arrears but it doesn't help my credit when I can not pay and they end up being reported on my credit report. Is there any thing I can do to get theses arrears paid. He is a self employed truck drive and I was told that they could revoke his CDL. Is this true and how do I go about it? He lives in Pennsylvania. Would it be wise to have the venue of our child support case changed to Georgia?

Re: Child support arrears

Yes, you would be wise to register your PA judgment in GA and proceed to collect based on GA law, since this is where you and the children live now. Call me for legal assistance.

Re: Child support arrears

Your husband is quite obviously in contempt of the first PA decree. I would caution that as your ex-husband and the divorce decree are from PA he could make much of those facts and argue that any action should be conducted there. I would contact the support enforcement agency in PA for any help they could provide. It would be less costly than privately hiring an attorney. And yes under certain circumstances his license can be suspended for non-payment.
