Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

what is a de novo / masters hearing?

My wife just went through a custody battle with her ex husband and retained custody of the children. She then filed for child support. Support was ordered and we have received one partial payment. We just received a paper in the mail from the domestic relations stating that there will be a ''De Novo / Masters Hearing'' at the courthouse next month. It states that her physical presence is not required but she may attend if she desires.

What exactly is going to take place? Should we plan on attending? Is this going to be just for support or will it be for the custody issue as well? It came from domestic relations so I'm assuming it's only for the support order. Am I right? Will they cancel the support or will it only be for a modification?

Its always best to attend court proceedingas unless a lawyer says you don't need to be there. The notice should indicate somewhere on it if it is for support or custody but from your description probably support. Support is entered and paid at the conference level and can be modified retroactive to the date of the original filing. Your wife should have an attorney at least review the case to determine if counsel is necessary. I offer free consultations.
