Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

International Divorce

What grounds does a divorce decree processed in Comobia (South America) have in the U.S. (specially PA)? I got married and divorced in Colombia but have lived in the US for 5 years. Do I need to file for Divorce here in the US as well or does the Colombian divorce decree apply here?

Re: International Divorce

The divorce decree should opperate fully in its effect. You were married in the jurisdiction that the decree comes from and you were a resident. Unless the decree was procurred by fraud you should be fine. If you were to remarry, you would need a certifed copy with translation to prsent to the County Clerk who issues licenses. These can take time, so it is best to get it before you really need it.
