I am representing myself, pro se, in a custody hearing. I am the defendent. Can my ex-wifes attorney call me to the stand for questioning?

Yes he can! Besides he'll also cross examine you when you testify on you own behalf.
Question if she thinks it important to have an attorney why don't you think it's important to have an attorney?

John took the words right out of my mouth. If I were her attorney and you tried to not testify, without a doubt I would call you to testify. You will be going up against someone who is well trained and experienced in custody matters. It is generally very difficult for a pro se person to win a case when the other person has an attorney. There are many different state and local rules of evidence and civil procedure and you will be expected to know all those rules.
If at all possible, i suggest that your retain counsel.
