Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

small claims

i was engaged to an abusive man from 2001-2004, during this time i opened 2 credit accounts since he had no credit and the products that were bought with them i could not get back from him but now i have been stuck paying the bills with nothing to show. i could not go to court after the breakup because of fear that he would come after me or my family. i have since moved to another state and feel more comfortable with taking him to court. there was never anything on police record of the attacks because when i tried to call 911 he would take the phone and threaten to kill me if i called or left him. after i left he would not allow me to take a lot of my things and since threw them away. Out of these things was my Comcast digital cable box which i now owe over $200 for. The credit cards totaled almost $3k. I want to take him to court and i'm not sure if i should have an attorney or if i could even win. if i do go to court i am getting a temp restraining order against him. i lived in pennsylvania at the time of all of this but i have recently moved to massachusetts, therefore i will have to go to pennsylvania small claims court. please help me figure out what to do. thank you for your time and have a nice day.

Re: small claims

When was the last time you seen this individual? Please look-up Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 209A and its respective sections.

If this individual has not been in contact with you for the last couple of years, you will not be awarded a restraining order. In addition, do you think it is wise to re-engage yourself with a violent person for 3,200.00 dollars?

You may want to consider leaving this dog to rest. Just a thought!

Sincerely, Maria Murber

Re: small claims

I agree with what the attorney above said. If you feel that you need to pursue this guy hire an PA attorney to do the work for you.
