Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

spinal tap injury

I wasw told by a lawyer that I should go to the law library and file for a praecipe for a Writ of Summons and take it to a prophonotary office in City Hall. I do not know how to go about filing for a praecipe or where to go for one. My statutory limit is almost over in December 2003.

You have been given improper advice. A summons only commences a legal action. A formal complaint needs to be filed. Most attorneys will handle matters of injury on a contingent fee basis. The Prothonotary's Civil Commencement Unit in Philadelphia County is in Room 280, City Hall. It costs $208.50 to initiate a lawsuit (add $180.00 if you demand a jury), which can be done by filing a Writ of Summons or a Complaint.
