Immigration Questions at Port of Entry

Is it customary for a port of entry inspector to ask a naturalized US citizen what he/she does for a living in the US?

I wouldn't necessarily say that specific question is customary, but inspectors do sometimes ask general questions about the person, their travels, etc.
