Legal Question in Immigration Law in Pennsylvania

My wife and I have a green card and we filled out the necessary green card paperwork for my 1 year old son at the port of entry when we entered the US again. Can my son leave the country (for 2 weeks) with the stamp in his passport that he received and before his green card has arrived or do we need some other authorisation?

A I-551 stamp in the passport is a temporary evidence of a permanent resident status, and can be used instead of one while it's valid.
