Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania
I am a resident property manager of a small 96 unit apartment community in a small town in Pennsylvania. My salary is a set wage and the position includes the use of a two bedroom apartment rent free. My family has recently grown to include my newborn son. Now we have 4 people (myself, my husband, my daughter, & son) living in a two bedroom apartment. This is ok for now but in a few years we will grow out of our apartment. My son and daughter will not be able to share a room as they get bigger. We recently asked our boss if we could have back to back apartments as the apartment next us is now vacant (we are currently on the second floor). She didn't like this idea and stated she wanted us to be on the first floor now and if two back to back apartments on the first floor became available we could move into them. It is a VERY RARE occurance to have any back to back units available at the same time. We then asked her if we could purchase a house that would not be more than 5 minutes aways. She stated that this position is for an on-site manager and that we could not do that either. My question is this, does my employer have to allow me to accommodate for my growing family by either allowing us to have another apartment (we would even pay for the extra unit) or by allowing us to purchase a home close to the property? Thanks!

It sounds to me as if your employer has legitimate business reasons to have an on-site manager. I don't think the employer is required to accommodate your family but may be willing to do so.
