Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Treated unfairly by a manager

I have an important computer job at a large company. I have had difficulty with my two managers. They do not understand the importance of my job. My friend and I recently complained to my HR dept. about double standards regarding comp time for exempt employees (some got it, some did not) now noone gets comp time, and that my managers do not seem to take an active role in their employees. My one manager has shown me inappropriate pictures of his wife and made comments that I found offensive. Today were the meetings regarding yearly raises. Out of eight ee's reporting to my manager..my friend and I were the only ones that the HR dept sat in on. ( the same HR ee that we discussed our concerns with) I recieved no raise at all.. i was told that there was a limited amount of money in the pool and that there have been many complaints about my personality and the way i come off to people. Also in meetings I lean back in my chair and it is taken as rude. I was told that ''maybe we should find another position for you, or maybe you should leave the company all together'' I feel they are unfairly discriminating against me because I complained about my manager. What should I do? Should I go to HR again and speak w/a higher up?

Re: Treated unfairly by a manager

the important issue is why you feel you are being discriminated. is it because you are simply not liked by someone or is it more insidious. There are certain protected areas of discrimination. If you were discriminated due to race, religion, nationality, religion, because of a disability or perceived disability, age, because of sex, or if there is sexual harassment involved. these are among the protected areas. Your comments of the manager showing inappropriate pictures of his wife or making remarks you find offensive may provide some indication that there is something involved that may give you legal recourse.

You should consult with an attorney to discuss the matter and incidents in more depth. Did you report the inapproriate remarks of the manager to a supervisor or HR this is relevant. If you are located near my office you can contact me to schedule an appointment if not I suggest you contact an attorney close to where you reside or work.
