Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

Breaking a Lease

I am currently on active duty in Pennsylvania. My wife currently lives in Florida and will be moving up here in June with three children. I lease expires late August. I currently live in a two bedroom apartment so there is no room for 5 family members. I was not married at the time I signed the lease. I have the opportunity to move on base to avoid rent payments. I know there is a law in Florida that says that if active duty soldiers are eligible for government housing, they are able to break a lease without penalty. Is this true in Pennsylvania as well?

Re: Breaking a Lease

I know active duty service members are protected by federal law against law suits.

If there is a specific PA law I am unaware of it.

The first thing I would do is contact your landlord and see if he is OK with you breaking the lease. You never know unless you ask.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
