Legal Question in Tax Law in Pennsylvania
My sister recently passed. She left a house and some money in a savings account. she had no will and it did not go to probate. She lives in Virginia I am in Pa. Will I have to pay an inheritance tax. I and my two sisters are only relatives.

A common misconception that many people have who are inheriting property, whether real or personal property, is that they are responsible for paying the inheritance tax, but the truth is that if any inheritance tax is due, it is payable by the estate.
In your situation, your sister was a resident of Virginia and the Intestate laws and Inheritance Tax laws of Virginia will apply. A Virginia estate is liable for any inheritance tax, in the same way that a Pennsylvania estate is liable for the payment of the tax and not the beneficiaries, or the intestate heirs.
