Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

Pa estate final distribution

My mom died in pa 2 years ago. I chose to handle the estate myself. I took care of all payment of bills and debts. I decided to give the final distribution to my lawyer, so i know everything was done correct. My lawyer has had this for 8 months, every time i call they claim something else. They say the taxes were done wrong and they have to redo.. They are redoing everything i have done. They say it has to be submitted to the court in certain format. So they are formating all the in coming checks and outgoing checks. I feel like they are doing everything i have done already. All i wanted them to do is the final distribution. Am i being bilked by this lawyer..? Them seem to keep finding new things to do.. I just want to distribute and be done... Any suggestions?

Re: Pa estate final distribution

I have not seen what you have done or what is being proposed. However, from handling several small estates in PA, I think what is proposed is much more than is needed. You do not say how large the estate is and what tax returns are being proposed to be redone? Bottom line: It appears that the attorney you retained is preparing a "formal judicial accounting" which might not be necessary in your situation (just padding fees by the attorney). While there are final documents required, this can be usually done "informally" and without the time, effort and costs that what is being done will involve.
