Legal Question in Workers Comp in Pennsylvania

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I had carpal tunnel release surgery on my right hand in 1992 and my left hand in 1995, both covered by GTE Worrkers Comp. Two different doctors did the surgeries but they both told me the problem would almost certainly reoccur. They were both right, it is back with a vengeance! Can I reopen the claim with GTE even though I was layed-off in May 1997 and no longer work there? If yes, how do I go about it?

Re: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

It's possible, but it may well depend on how and when your previous benefits terminated. There are fixed time limits under the comp act for reopening a claim. You need to get an attorney immediately. I've recently joined a firm which doesn't do workers comp cases, but I'd be happy to refer you do someone who does, and can give you real advice on whether your claim can be reopened.
