Legal Question in Workers Comp in Pennsylvania

workmans comp and lay offs

A friend of mine was injured at work (was off for about 10 months) He was permitted to come back to work on ''light duty'' his workman's comp has been on going since the incident (paying for continuing medical treatment). His company is now going to lay him off (partly because the light duty status). He has been told -by company-he will not be elligible for workman's comp benifits while on lay off. Any ideas on this, and is there an on-line source for caselaw reference to workmans comp? thanks in advance
