Legal Question in Employment Law in Philippines
nanny employment
I am--name removed--M.--name removed--31 years old, Filipino and currently living in the Philippines. I was hired as a nanny by a family represented by the father from San Francisco, California via internet through the website with them hiring a travel agency named Skywright Travel Ltd also located in San Francisco. They had asked for my pertinent documents for my visa and working permit for which I submitted via email. Last Tuesday July 30 my supposed papers was released so I was notified through email again. And they were asking the payment for the documents fees and flight ticket before airmailing said documents to me. My question is How can I verify the validity of my visa and other documents from the US embassy in the Philippines or The in US? I am afraid to pay through western union as asked because it might be bogus. All I want is a notification from the immigration department with a seal or anything which marks that it is true. hoping for your immediete action. Thank you.

Re: nanny employment
Chances are your approval is a fake, bogus, or whatever you want to call it. Ordinarily, it is the US Embassy here that notifies you of the approval of your visa, NOT THE EMPLOYER. That is actually sent directly by the INS in the States to the US Embassy in Manila. Why don't you check with the US Embassy itself. Good luck.
Re: nanny employment
i do not suggest that you pay without verifying with POEA. Problem is, what you are doing is illegal. Every overseas employment has to be cleared with the POEA. EVen the US Embassy in Manila cant help you considering that this is an illegal approach that you are doing
Re: nanny employment
Obviously, you are not protected with the direct hiring transaction you are entering via internet with this travel agency. A travel agency under our laws is prohibited from engaging in recruitment. The fact that they are already collecting when you have not yet obtained any employment should warn you that the transaction is bogus. Why don't you visit the website of the Manila US Embassy and inquire via email regarding this Skywright Travel Ltd. Do not be deceived. Unless they will shoulder all the expenses for your engagement as a nanny don't take the risk of paying them.
