Legal Question in Business Law in South Carolina
I was employed at a retail store for over a year. I worked hard and did my job as instructed. I had certain days off to take my daughter to her appointments. Out of no where they decided that needed to watch a training video,. Which i was already a manager so why now? The day they wanted me to come in was a day i had to go to the doctor. I asked if i could come the next day and i was told the district manager had to be present for me to watch the video. That didnt sound right, so the next day i was put on suspension for not watching the video. I was told i would get a call to view the video. I waited for about a month. Finally the DM called and gave me a date to come in to watch it, but once again it was a time i couldnt come in. Well today for the first time i heard from unemployment office that i was terminated for not showing up for work during loss pervention ongoing investagation. I never heard of that reason till today. Can u give any advice?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. Unless you have an employment contract, are in a union, or were terminated for because of your race, age, sex, etc., your job is at will. This means either party can terminate at any time without reason. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
