Medical bills collections

If a Hospital does not contact you or file your insurance until 4 years after the treatment was rendered can they still collect on the monies owed?

The applicable statute of limitations may have expired, therefore they would not be able to collect unless you did nothing to protect your rights. Are you being contacted by a collection agency? If they are threatening to sue you over a stale claim, then that may be a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Act. I really would need to know more details. Also, if the hospital failed to file timely under your insurance, they may be barred from collecting directly from you. How much is the bill?
