Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

what defines abandonment? made rash decision to marry a friend after returning from Iraq for 13 months. I realized it was a mistake because i wasnt thinking like myself due to the rapid adjustment in enviroment (war zone to state side) but she wont let go. so i made her go to her mothers house. i kept her cell phone on and offered to help her move her stuff out as well as offered her time to come back and stay to get her affairs in order and she told me no. is that abandonment?

Abandonment or desertion means that you are gone for over a year and she doesn't know where you are. The facts that you describe do not appear to meet those qualifications, and frankly desertion is rarely used as a basis for divorce anymore in SC anyway.

If you do not want to be married, then you would probably be wise to go ahead and consult an attorney to discuss filing for a legal separation. Three are many things that can occur which would not be in your best interest if you do nothing.
