Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

my ex went to prison when i was 8 months pregent. His family had nothing to do with my child. He is not listed on the birth cert. and his release date is 01/01/2013. I want to Terminate my rights so my mom and dad can adopt him. But out of the blue his mom shows up and wants my ex to fight for custody. This is his fifth time in prison. He is in there for durg charges and robbery. I need to know if it is possible for him to win a custody battle. My child doesn't know him or his family...i am married now and he thinks that my husband is his dad. I am a very educated person, i completed college. The reason i am terminating my rights is because it is the best thing for my child. I am not ready to raise a child yet. Could he win custody?
