Legal Question in Immigration Law in South Carolina
Hello,
I am a Colombian student with visa F1. I will graduate in May and I will continue studying in the same university my masters, therefore, I will have another I-20 form from the University. My visa will expire in May, so I wonder if I could renew my visa in the USA. or.. must I go to Colombia to renew it?
I also would like to know if an American friend could be my sponsor instead of my parents, and what the requirements for that sponsor are.
Thank you very much!

To renew a visa (or get a new visa) you have to depart the USA and apply at the Consulate abroad. A visa can't be stamped into a passport if an individual is in USA.
Anyone willing to pay your tuition and other expenses can be a sponsor.
Of course, sometimes it could be viewed with suspicion when an unrelated individual promises to pay someone's tuition, but it's not impossible to have a sponsor who is not related to a student.
