Can a landlord legally ask for more money over the deposit for repairs to a rental home?

The landlord can only ask for what has been agreed in the lease.

If the repairs are significant and the tenant caused the damage, the landlord may be forced to take the tenant to court to force payment.

If, the repairs are for some other reason, then it's a matter of agreement who should pay. Thsi doesn't sound like a legal problem, but one of negotiation, because it sounds like the landlord is looking for a loan.
