Access to Public Records

I'm seeking what I believe to be public documents of a school board. I have been told by the Board attorney that some of the items are not public, are work products of the accountant, are attorney-client privilege, etc. These are documents which relate to a school construction program.

I requested the items again--specifically from the custodian of the records. Still no reply.

How do you go about filing in court for access to public documents? Is there any case you could refer me to that would provide a guideline for procedures and documents to file, etc. if I chose to go pro se.

Take a look at the Freedom of Information Act, a federal statute, and the Tennessee Sunshine Act, which opens public meetings. Think twice about acting pro se. This is a complicated area. For more info, see www.gsmithlawfirm.com .
