Can state child support agency take money won from a injury lawsuit
I got hurt on the job working in Tenn. I have been off work for almost 2 years now cause of my injury and i have a lawsuit filed agaisnt workmans comp. I am also about to start getting S.S.I. from this injury. My quistion is, I havent worked since my injury and there for i havent been able to pay my child support so the child support agency is getting me for back child support and they wrote my laywer for my lawsuit and told him that they are takeing the money i am awarded out of my lawsuit, can they do this? They are going to charge me interist along with the support. I have a wife and a child now and we are struggling by and has been for some time now. I was makeing less than 20,000 a year and my ex wife and her husband make almost 100,000. a year. i have been paying for everything for my daughter like school clothes and all her sports and everything along with child support up till i got hurt. I guess all i need to know is can they take the money right off the top of the money i am going to get awarded from my workmans comp lawsuit? And can they charge me interist on it?
