Legal Question in Immigration Law in Tennessee

am a Canadian citizen on an O1B visa. I will be going for a green card within 6 months. I have a girlfriend in Canada and we wanted to know if it was a good idea to get married so she can ride on my greencard application with me. I have talked to a few people and they seem to think that is the best idea, but I would like to know legally if that is a smart decision. Also, is there an amount of time we need to be married for it to be approved on the application? Thank you

Yes, for her to become a permanent resident at the same time as you, she has to be married to you, a primary applicant. As a girlfriend, she won't be eligible to apply for permanent residency. As a wife, she can apply at the same time. No, there is no minimum time requirement for the marriage.
