Legal Question in Immigration Law in Tennessee

I entered the USA legally (under inspection) in 2001 on B1/B2 Visa (six month) and then extended it for a further six months. Following 911 I did not want to travel by air and stayed and have been here ever since. I haven't worked etc, being able to support myself, but now in Jan 2010 I am wanting to leave to go back to the UK. Will I encounter any problems at the airport if I have a one way ticket? I just want to be forewarned if I am likely to be questioned or detained or suchlike, or worse, prevented from leaving. Thanks.

You should be able to depart the USA and go back to your home country UK. They will definitely let you leave the country provided you have a valid UK passport.

However, you will not be able to come back to USA because of the overstay for over 7 years. You will be banned from admission to USA for the next 10 years.
