Legal Question in Immigration Law in Tennessee

My friend came across from Canada, he said he was going to be here for the weekend and he has stayed longer. He is aware that as a Canadian he can stay up to 6 months per calendar year. My question is, if they have it on record that he was supposed to be here for the weekend and has stayed over 6 weeks can he get into trouble? He has not been working and can afford to be here. He will be trying to re enter because he has applied for schooling here and will be coming back across on a student visa and didn't want to risk be denied.

A Canadian lawfully inspected and admitted to USA by CBP can lawfully stay up to 6 months. It's not per calendar year. Staying for 6 weeks should not be a problem.
