Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee

Is this discrimination...

I have been working for a large company for several years and have always recieved excellent reviews from my supervisor. Recently the company decided to send a co-worker of mine for some very expensive and valuable certification which would greatly boost the resume. Obviously, I also want this certification, however the company does not need another employee with this certification. The co-worker that was sent for the certification was hired on exactly the same date as myself. We are the most senior (regarding time in service) employees in our department. We do not have a union in our department. So...my question. Is this discrimination? Do I have the right to recieve this certification since my co-worker with exactly the same time in service recieved the certification?

Yes, they are discriminating against you in favor of the co-worker. Most discrimination is not illegal. Why is the co-worker getting the opportunity and not you? Do you fall into a protected category that the co-worker does not?
