Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee

Hand-written additions to wills

If a family member had a will signed and notarized, are any hand-written additions to the will valid? There were no witnesses that saw the family member do the additions. Also, the hand-written additions were not notarized.

Re: Hand-written additions to wills

Under Tennessee law, a handwritten "addition" (codicil) to a will is valid if it is written entirely in the handwriting of the deceased, dated, and signed by the deceased. There is some authority that says that the codicil must also bear the signatures of two witnesses, however, that may not be necessary.
