Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee
Rights of a non-adopted daughter
Hi,
My ''Dad'' is being treated for cancer and I would like for him and I to discuss what we need to be doing just in case something should happen to him suddenly.
He never legally adopted me but he is my Dad and he is estranged from all of his brothers and sisters. The only income has is disability and I do not have money to help him much.
He says he wants to make sure me and my husband get all that he has, (tools, clothes, his van, etc) He has no savings, stocks/bonds, jewelry, etc. I told him if he did not get a will, his brothers and sisters have all rights to his property. (he is divorced and mother and father are deceased). He still has not gotten a will prepared and really does not have the money.
Is there anything else that would stand up in court other than an actual will? Could we type up a list of his belongings and state who would inherit it and go before a notary and approach it that way?
Thanks for your help!

Re: Rights of a non-adopted daughter
The gentleman needs a will. No other document will do. If he is interested, have him contact me and I will be happy to do it for him at a cost he can afford.
