Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
music copyright
My family recorded a sacred music CD. We are making it available to friends and family and church members for a cost of $5.00. We are not doing it for money making purposes. Do we have to worry about copyright payments?

Re: music copyright
Federal copyright laws prohibit the reproduction in any form of a protected work without the permission of the copyright holder. This is true whether or not the work is being reproduced for profit, and regardless of the intentions of the copier.
To comply with the law you must contact the holder of the copyright of the work you intend to copy and get their permission whether by payment or for free.
