Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Should you sign a hold harmless separation agreement from an employer?
1 Answer from Attorneys
An attorney will not be able to answer this question without more information from you as to why you are being asked to sign the agreement. Most employment is "at will" which means you can be terminated at any time or quit at any time and no documents have to be signed.
If there is a basis for the agreement such as if it is part of another agreement like a severance package or if originally signed an employment agreement and it is part of that agreement, etc.then, maybe.
You should consult with an attorney regarding your issues and let that attorney review what you are signing in its entirety so that you are fully apprised. People who pay an attorney for their advise usually save themselves a lot of anguish and future trouble.
