Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
Auto Accident Liability Payments (out of pocket)
I rear-ended someone and wanted to pay for the repairs out of pocket. The other party filed a claim w/ his insurance company, to whom I would pay the bill. They sent an estimate, but his vehicle has been repaired and they don't want to send a copy of the actual repair invoice so that I can pay that amount. Is this legal (to HAVE to pay the appraisal amount rather than the ACTUAL cost of the repairs)?

If you have liability insurance..turn it over tothem..but it is "legal" to collect whatever one can..YES...insurance companies are just other legal people..ie corporations.
Ask your agent..but generally one claim a year does not affect your rates...but check it out..or if you don't turn it in..let the insurance for the carowner sue..and see what, if anythiing, they get a judgment for..it will not include attorney fees..
