Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas
contract law
I want to cancel my gym membership. I am in Texas right outside of San Antonio. In my contract there is no mention of a 30 day notice to cancel or a fee to cancel. The gym wants a 30 day notice and a five dollar fee to cancel. Do I HAVE to give a 30 day notice if it is NOT in the contract. What is the law on that in Texas. And can i get a partial refund for the unused portion of the paid membership?

Re: contract law
If they'll cancel for 30 day notice and a five dollar fee, get that in writing and take advantage of it. Usually you're on the hook for the entire contract. By law, they can hold you to the entire contract since there's no opt-out provision.
You can ask for a partial refund, but there's no guaranty they'll give it to you.
