Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

If you applied for a student loan (Sallie Mae) and It was nothing like what you had been told it would be (Could'nt keep a teacher, dismissed early lack of something to do, basically a hang out time) are we still liable for the $8,000 or is there something we can do? My daughter stayed with it for 7 months (after complaining about doing nothing in classes) and she is receiving letters that if she doesn't pay they will take it from her income tax. What can we do about this debt? She has no money, receiving aid, 5 month old daughter and works part time. Thank you

First of all, alarm bells should have gone off a long time ago regarding this debt.

There are deferment and forgiveness provisions regarding student loans. Those are issues that your daughter needs to discuss with student loan advisor with Sallie Mae. If she has ignored this too long, they will garnish her paychecks and tax refunds. Dissatisfaction with the school courses will probably not, at this late date, constitute a satisfactory reason to avoid repayment. It may contstitute a satisfactory reason to file a complaint with the school and its accreditation.
