Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Calls from bill collector regarding son

For the last several months a collection agency has been calling my house looking for my son. I have told them that he does not live with me and I gave them his telephone number, and explained to them that I didn't have a current address, but would make sure he got the message. I then asked that they not call my house any more since he did not live there and they agreed not to call me any more. However, they keep calling and leaving messages on my answering machine and when I do talk to them they are agreeable and say they won't call my number again, but they do. Do I have any legal recourse if they keep calling me? I have told them everything I know and it really bothers me to have them calling my house when I have asked them to stop. Please help

Re: Calls from bill collector regarding son

The telephone is the Devil's Instrument when dealing with bill collectors. You need to tell them in writing, preferably by certified mail, return receipt requested.

When you write to them instruct them not to call your home since your son does not live there. If they call after they've received your letter, as indicated by the green return card, you can bring suit against them for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
