Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Charge off dates

I have a charge off listed on my credit. The charge off was reported in 2-2000. The company continues to sell the account, therefore changing the date of last activity. I disputed this with the credit reporting agency, and they refuse to correct the date or remove the account.

What can I do to have this corrected?

Re: Charge off dates

The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you a remedy if you want to take it that far. You can file suit against the credit reporting agency.

Re: Charge off dates

The charge-off information will remain on your credit report for seven years from the date the bad debt was incurred. However the sale of your account, which is quite legal, should not change the date of charge-off.

Write to the credit bureaus and let them know you want to correct your credit report. They'll send you the forms. If they refuse to correct the report, you may take further action against them under the Fair Debt Reporting Act.
