Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Credit Counseling Services
In June of this year, my husband and I joined a debt management program. By some mistake of the company (which they've admitted), they sent our payment to a company with whom we've never held an account. We've tried to get our money back from the credit card company to whom they sent payments, with no luck.
They also failed to set up agreements with some of our other creditors and just sent them money. The payments were less than the required amounts and cost us numersous late payment fees. In short, they took our credit rating and flushed it down the toilet.
We've filed complaints with the company and the BBB.
Finally, they've called and offered half of our start up fee refunded and some letters to our creditors. We do not feel like this is enough after so much heartache. Should we accept, or is this worth the fight?
We joined the program in a different state than we presently live. The debt management company is in Maryland. Where should we contact a lawyer?
Thank-You

Re: Credit Counseling Services
If the company does business only in Maryland, and you utilized your services while in Maryland, thenyou would probably have to find an attorney in Maryland. A court in Illinois would probably not have jurisdiction to hear the case.
