Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
I leased a car from Mint Leasing for $21K. I was supposed to pay the downpayment in 2 payments... 2000 up front and 1000 in two weeks. I was late on the 1000 and they repoed the car. They have leased the car to someone else but are still after me for $28K. They say the extra $7k is for fees. Don't they have to reduce the amount they say i owe by the amount they leased the car for?

Write them a letter (keep a copy) and ask them to itemize the calculation for the $7000. Send it by certified mail (postage will be about $5.50) with a certified receipt requested. STOP TALKING TO THEM ON THE PHONE. If they call, tell them that you will communicate with them only in writing. No matter what they say. Even if they threaten you. Tell them to put it in writing, and then HANG UP THE PHONE.
