Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

I have to have my utilities through my city... they just sent a bill that is in my name with my brothers old bill on it.. My brother does not live here and they are trying to make me pay it or cut off my utilities. Is this legal for them to so?

Many times, the utilities believe that the person that did not pay the bill still lives there and used a different name to avoid paying. Especially when it is a relative. Contact the utility and ask them what proof they want to show that your brother does not live their anymore. Usually a lease or other utility bills will work.

If all else fails, contact the Texas Public Utilities Commission, you can get the number from the city utility.
