Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

legal malpractice

I hired an attorney to represent me in a theft by check case. He failed to file paperwork showing representation and also failed to advise me of a court date-therefore he says I must turn myself into jail Thursday and he can't promise I'll get out due to his mistake, I am in trouble for bailjumping. I have two children and may lose my job and home if they keep me in jail!

Re: legal malpractice

I is not clear to me why it is up to your lawyer to tell you when your court date is. Where I practice, the defendant gets notice from the court/jail. Generaly defendants have to periodically check in with their bail bondsmen who keep them notified of their court dates.
