Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Payday Loans
I took out a paydayloan in June of this year for $200. My situation at the time did not permit me to pay it back and subsequently I forgot about it. A ''Legal Counselor'' that works for the payday loan company says that if I do not pay them $580 by 3pm (central time) today then they will have the police come to my home or my work and have me arrested for Internet Wire Fraud. I do not and will not have the money until 9/22/06. Are they going to come get me at my place of employment?

Re: Payday Loans
PayDays are barely legal operations.
Threatening criminal action to collect a civil debt is NOT legal.
Start be reporting the threats to the Attorney General's Office.
The increase in debt may or may not be legal, depending upon the contract which you signed.
If the increase is deemed usurious interest then it is not legal.
The police do not collect civil debts -- and will not come to your house or your work.
