Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Battling the ex

for nearly 1 1/2 years i was unemployeed and doing odd jobs to keep up just my rent. I communicated with my ex wife over and over letting her know the statis of my employeement issue. when i came to the holidays i would ask her what the kids need and would save up to get it for them. she recently filed for back child support I am with out a job. I was told to file a continues and was missed informed about how it would be handled. I have a sheriff looking for me now. I just got out of a 1 month stay in the hospital i am broke and really dont want to spend time in jail. I really need some assistance on avoiding going to jail. I need someone who would work with me on this matter. She lives with her mother and her father pays for everything I dont have help. Is there any way I can avoid going to jail. and still work out my back child support issue?

Re: Battling the ex

Instead of just telling your ex you were out of work, you should have tried to get the support order modified (you could have gone to the AG for that) to lower your obligation. Then trying to be your own attorney only made things worse.

Have you tried applying for legal aid, sound like you would qualify? Otherwise, when you get picked up on the Capias, tell the Judge you are indigent and ask for an indigency hearing.
