Custody

I am a mother of a 5 month old baby. After filling for child support the father of my baby is taking me to court for custody. I have no money for a lawyer. what are thr grounds for me loosing my baby. Do you know anyone who can help me.

The judge will look at who has been the primary caregiver to the baby and what is in the baby's best interest. If the father can show that you have any issues that prevent you from being a good caregiver (alcohol, drug, neglect or abuse) those would be grounds for appointing him as primary custodian. There are many factors that enter into a court's decision. You should absolutely not show up to any hearing for custody without an attorney. I encourage you to call around and find an attorney who would work on payment plan and start trying to find family members, credit cards, anything to help you pay for this.
