Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Divorce from Alien Spouse w/children

I am a U.S. citizen. I moved to Egypt and married an Egyptian national in 2001. We have 2 children. I am back in the States with the children. He is in Egypt with no plans to come to the U.S. Is my marriage recognized in the U.S.? How can I get a divorce without spending lots of money?

It is impossible to answer -- how can I get a divorce without spending a lot of money!!

Your attorney cannot control your spouse and his behavior.

How do you plan to have the father visit the children?

Your marriage is recognized in the U.S.

There more disagreement there is, the more expensive the divorce will be. The best way to lower the costs is to agree on everything in advance. The basic issues in a divorce are property division, child support, and visitation.

If you can agree on everything in advance, your attorney fees will be lower. If there are points where you cannot agree, just give in. Of course if the matter is more important than saving money, then you should consider spending money on an attorney.

The reason divorces are often "expensive" is because the parties cannot be reasonable and fight. After the dust settles, they realize how stupid they have been and how much money they have wasted. Then they direct their anger toward their lawyers.
