Divorce/legal separation

My brother is at the beginning of a divorce with his wife who is an alcoholic. He has 3 kids, one 13/11 and 9. Is there anyway he can separate himself liability wise from her before their divorce is final?

She can not stop drinking and drinks every day. Is it possible to get her kicked out of the house to protect the 3 kids?

I don't know how far he is into the "beginning", but if has a lawyer doing this, then these questions should be asked of the lawyer. There are many different ways to do many different things. Some of them cost money, and some people choose to save money rather than exercise available choices.
