Theoretically, you can ask the Attorney General's Office to help you get it lowered. I've never known anyone that actually received such help, but it is theoretically possible.

Another choice would be to handle the matter yourself. One of the best things about this country is that you can be your own attorney -- you can't be your own doctor, but you can be your own attorney. However, be advised that I recently heard a judge tell someone that representing yourself is like doing heart surgery on yourself: "You'll get about halfway through, it will hurt alot, you'll bleed alot, and you'll wonder why you ever started."

You could ask a place like West Texas Legal Services to help you. They provide some services to low income people.

If none of these options work, you need to find the money and hire an attorney. The worst thing to do is not pay your child support. It is the only debt in Texas for which you can be imprisoned, and everything you own (other than your homestead) can be taken.
