Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I am the mother of a 2 year old. I am not married to her father. He left about a month ago and I want to know what I need to file so that he cant come back and try to take custody of her.? Do I need to file custody papers or what? I want sole custody but dont know if I already have it or if I need to go to court since we are not married.

You don't state if this man is on her birth certificate.

If there is no father listed on the birth certificate then you are the child's only parent.

You really need to sit down and talk to an experienced family law attorney in your county.

You don't include where you live in Texas. You need to talk to an attorney in your county.

If both of you are on the birth certificate then you probably need to go to court and get child support and visitation started.

If you live in Harris County, you can call me for a referral to an attorney at 713-847-6000.
