Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Power of Attorney

What kind of Power of Attorney do I need, if I live in Texas, and I want my son who is 13 years old, to stay with friends for a year in NY state? I want my friends to be able to enroll my son in school and do i have to buy a Power of Attorney from NY or TX?

Re: Power of Attorney

The answer is -- what does the school want?

Also, any attorney you retain would want to do know where the child's other parent is and will they also agree to the plans.

Once you know what the school requires to register a child, then you can contact an attorney in your area.

If it's only a power of attorney, you could execute it in the state where you live.

Also, find out what the document should say.

Often the legal terms used in the state are very different from the legal terms used in another state.

Such as the term "common law marriage". What it means is whatever the legislature of that state says it means or does not mean.
