Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Is my Employer Partly Responsible for Property Damage''

Yesterday, two people tried to break into my car - attempting to drill a whole into the key lock, disabling the door from locking, but some one saw them and scared them away. The person described both the vehicle and the person. I soon learned that this has happened recently to a couple more people who work in our new multi-million dollar work area, with a golf course - owned by five doctors, consultants in pain. They mentioned the incident to these 5 doctors last night, and they refuse to get security cameras or security patrol. I'm afraid that if I just fix the car myself, then the criminals are just going to do the same thing again, and then I have to just continue putting out money. I've been told that is the price of driving a nice car, but yet my boss, the doctor, parks his Bentley, Mercedez Benz and Lexis in the same parking lot, and refuses to do anything about these criminals acts. My question is whether or not I have the right to take these doctors to small claims court to fix the damage to my car, because of his negligence in providing some type of security?

Re: Is my Employer Partly Responsible for Property Damage''

Your employer isn't responsible for the criminal acts of others, this first time. If you've reported the incident and requested some security on the lot, you'll have a shot at them the next time it happens. Your automobile insurance should cover the vandalism this time.

Just remember that employers don't like to be sued by their employees, and they may quickly become your ex-employer. Weigh that risk against the cost of repairing the lock.
